Financial Coach vs. Money Manager - FiscalDad

I have been asked recently to clarify what I do and how it differs from a “Money or Financial Manager.” Here are a few of the details of how I am different.

Role of Teacher

My role is that of a teacher. I teach and guide individuals, families, and small businesses through the sometimes frustrating process of getting control over our money. My goal is to teach the fundamentals so that you can feel confident in making difficult decisions and how to communicate effectively about money. I will never ask for power of attorney, access to accounts, or to be made executor or trustee of your estate. While I want to build long-term relationships with all my clients, my goal is to only meet regularly during the learning process, followed by periodic meetings as needed.

Money Manager

The role of many managers is to take over the decision-making process and facilitate transactions on your behalf. This can be a positive for people who are very busy high-income earners or individuals who struggle with addictions or mental health issues. This can be a negative situation if one is passive about keeping up with the decisions or transactions of the manager. There is a chance of fraud in this situation.

Ownership

I firmly believe that taking ownership of our own financial decisions is the path to prosperity. Understanding the positives and negatives of our current financial situation and making difficult changes is the most important aspect of growth.

The Mission of FiscalDad:

To change the narrative surrounding money from negativity to positivity. Shame, guilt, confusion, and impulse will no longer drive our financial decisions. These will be replaced with intention, information, planning, and laughter. Every person deserves to be treated with love and respect, no matter their financial situation.
